Betty Jo Nicholson

Betty Jo Nicholson, born July 10, 1931 and died March 10.

Mrs. Nicholson was born in Kelly to Herschel and Leona (Massey) Howell. She attended school in Anna. She started working for Texas Instruments in Dallas, than she moved to Van Alstyne in 1965 when they built a plant in Sherman. Mrs. Nicholson retired after 33 years of service.

Mrs. Nicholson is survived by her children; Jim Burns and wife, Jackie Burns, Jeff Burns, Sue and Robert Helwer, Terri Irey and companion Wesley Beverly, Stan and Donna Nicholson, Debbie and Jackie Shiller and Melissa Nicholson, sister; Marty and Yoshi Tonomura and niece Laura and Jeff Gunn. She has 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Herschel and Leona Howell and her husband; Albert Nicholson.

Mrs. Nicholson attended football, basketball and baseball games. She was there for graduations, weddings, baby showers and to hold your hand at funerals, she was always there for you. Mrs. Nicholson’s family was her life, she always said “ It doesn’t matter weather you are born into it, adopted into it, or married into it, you are family.” Mrs. Nicholson lived life to the fullest. She always had an open house and you were always welcome.

A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Nicholson’s life will he held at 1 p.m. April 6 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel in Van Alstyne. Following the services the family would like to invite everyone for refreshments and drinks at the Van Alstyne Community Center located at 262 N. Preston St, Van Alstyne, TX 75495.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
