Joe C. Rice

ANNA — After a wonderful life of 85 years filled with love, laughter, and family, Joe C. Rice made his final journey home to meet his Lord and Savior February 9, 2017. Joe married his grade-school sweetheart and the love of his life, Betty Lu, on June 25, 1953. After 4 years of service in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Spikefish submarine, Joe and Betty settled in Garland, Texas where they raised their family. Once the kids were gone, they relocated to Anna, Texas, to the farm life they both loved. Joe was an electrical engineer finishing his career with over 22 years of service at Texas Instruments Incorporated.

After his retirement Joe filled his days playing as much golf as possible, raising and training race horses, a few hunting trips, and traveling with Betty to places both near & far. Joe’s most treasured times were those shared with his friends and most importantly his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe’s sharp wit and candid delivery will be remembered by all those on the receiving end. Always shared with love, and good intentions, trying to make us all just a little better.

Joe is survived by his four children, Pam Vrla, Jon and wife Stacy Rice, Carol Krayenhagen, Cindy and husband Clayton Brantley, grandchildren Bryan Vrla, Kimberly Wagner, Rebecca Fry, Gabrielle Rice, Gus Rice, Rachael Krayenhagen, Jennifer Brantley, Meredith Hendricks, and Three Brantley, a small herd of great grandchildren, and his sister, Rebecca Crow and brother Ronnie and wife Joy Rice and many other extended family and friends.

Joe Rice, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, leader, teacher of life lessons, and straight shooting son of a gun, we love you and miss you more than these few simple words could ever say.
