A dedication of the restored Anna Train Depot from 1885 will be held this weekend at Sherley Heritage Park.
The dedication ceremony and fun, festive family event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park, which is located at 101 South Sherley Street in the heart of Anna’s historic district. The dedication ceremony is being put on by the Anna Area Historical Preservation Society for the depot’s historical marker will feature guest speakers from the city of Anna and Collin County.
The event will include live music from Tammy Wortham, free rides for children on the trackless Choo-Choo Express, a historic Anna diorama created by Bert Wetherill, rail safety education, North Texas T-Trak N-Scale model trains display, North Central Texas All Scale garden railway display, historic locomotive horns display and demonstrations by Ken Fitzgerald and the Anna Depot will be open for tours.
Depot souvenirs will be available for purchase, as will food from Cross My Heart & Hope for Pie, Everything Ice Cream and Smoken S. BBQ and Catering Co.
Many volunteers and Anna residents, along with Play By Design, recently finished the construction of a brand new playground at the Sherley Heritage Park grounds. The playground, which looks like a train, fits the theme of the new museum site.
It took volunteers six days to erect the park.
