Josh Vollmer is one of the candidates vying for the Anna City Council Place 2. He is running against incumbent Alonzo Tutson and Bill Morgan. Vollmer is a team manager for State Farm Insurance’s auto claims department.

Vollmer said his reason for running for the council is a lot like the other candidates, to make sure the progress Anna is seeing stays positive and continues forward.

“I decided to run for City Council because I see the growth that is coming our way and I want to do my best to ensure that it is controlled and positive,” he said.

His experience and passion for economic growth makes him an asset for the council, Vollmer said.

“I am currently serving the City of Anna by serving as the Vice President of the Economic Development Corporation and the Vice President of the Community Development Corporation,” he said.

Vollmer agrees that Anna needs more of a commercial tax base.

“I have a passion for seeing economic growth in our city and bringing that revenue to ease the tax burden on us citizens, along with obtaining the necessary businesses so that we no longer need to leave the city to find entertainment options,” he said. “Anna needs to transition from being a bedroom community to a city that provides for the citizens, gives them options and a reason to stay, while also maintaining the heritage and history.”

A community center and recreation are also big needs in Anna, Vollmer said.

“Also, I think that the city is currently lacking a community center and the necessary parks, trails and sidewalks, limiting our ability to be an active and inviting community,” he said.
