Celina’s Lady Bobcats topped Melissa, 3-1, on April 2 at Celina. Micayla Galloway 4-hit the Lady Cardinals and struck out eight in a complete-game turn. The Lady Bobcats (3-4) rallied from a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. Lady Cards pitcher Alexis Pevehouse also went the distance, allowing eight hits while striking out seven.

The loss dropped Melissa (4-3) into third place in District 11-4A with three regular-season games to go. Celina (3-4) moved into sole possession of fourth place with three regular-season games left.

The Lady Cards broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Bryton Wright’s single to left brought home Anna Fortenberry from third. Fortenberry had reached base on an error and moved to second on Macy Stewart’s sacrifice bunt.

Celina answered in the bottom of the fifth, starting with Maralyn Perez’s one-out triple to right field. Galloway soon walked and Perez would come home on an error. An RBI-double to left and the Lady Bobcats led, 2-1. In Melissa’s sixth, Audrey Solomon posted a one-out double to center field but was stranded when Galloway retired the next two batters via infield ground outs.

Celina got an insurance run in the sixth on back-to-back singles before Pevehouse retired the next three batters in order. In the seventh, Galloway didn’t allow a Lady Cards baserunner.

Pevehouse and Fortenberry also slapped a double each for Melissa.
