Melissa sophomore Judson Greer beat his own 1,600-meter school-record time by five seconds on Saturday with a time of 4 minutes, 17.65 seconds at the Texas Distance Festival in Southlake. Cardinals head coach Travis Roberson noted that Greer now ranks No. 1 in the state in Class 4A in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races.
Approximately 1,600 runners took part in various distances at the event, boys and girls, ranging in classification from 2A to 6A. Greer finished fifth overall in a field of 415 in the 1,600-meter race, behind four Class 5A runners. Roberson also noted that all the Melissa boys who ran at Southlake set new personal-record times, including Carson Ross, Isaac Stonesifer and Charlie Burke in the 1,600; Jayden Smith in the 800; and Lucas Tauch in the 5K.
The event, hosted by Southlake Carroll Cross Country, was held at Dawson Middle School.
