ANNA – In a game that could’ve gotten way more out of hand than it did, Anna’s Lady Coyotes romped for 15 runs in a 50-minute first inning then eased off to down Gainesville, 16-0, on March 12 at the Anna Sports Complex. The three-inning run-ruled contest featured another no-hit outing by Lady Coyote pitcher Hannah Howell, this time with six strikeouts.

At the plate, Howell and Amber Thille smacked a double each while Kallie Harris collected a team-high 3 RBIs with two hits in three at-bats. Madison Gaston and Thille went 2-for-2 with the stick, with an RBI each, while Shelby Dombrowski, Hannah Morland and Adrienne “Koolaid” Newman also recorded an RBI.

Gainesville logged five errors on the day and walked eight. Nineteen Lady Coyotes batted in the first inning.

District 11-4A rules mandate that a game shall end with one team up by 15 runs or more after three innings, or 10 or more after five. It was the Lady Leopards’ second run-rule defeat in two days, having fallen by a combined score of 39-0.

With the victory, the Lady Coyotes are 2-0 in district play for the first time in well over a decade.

“It feels really good,” Anna head coach Lindsey Gage said. “The girls are excited. It’s something we haven’t done in a very long time. I know they’re looking forward to playing the rest of district and seeing how it ends up.

“Playing in a game like this, we weren’t real focused and I know that we’re going to have to be for these next three games with Melissa, Aubrey and Celina.” The Lady Coyotes travel to face Melissa (2-0) on March 19.
