VAN ALSTYNE - In a cold series of two games on Feb. 28 the Anna Coyotes boys baseball team tied for first place at the GCEC/Panther Classic in Van Alstyne.

Anna 8, South Garland 0

The Anna Coyotes defeated South Garland 8-0 on Thursday. Both senior Zach Howard and sophomore Rawley Hector pitched the shutout.

In the bottom of the first inning, Rawley Hector started things off with an inside-the-park home run on a fly ball to center field. Zach Howard follows up with a double. This ends the first inning with the score 1-0, Anna winning.

An error by South Garland’s first baseman during the bottom of the second inning brought sophomore Rawley Hector up to bat with sophomore Michael Burnside on third. A single by Hector brought Burnside home.

In the bottom of the sixth, Junior John Mark Box singles on a line drive to left field. Sophomore Derek Kirschner doubles on a line drive to center field. Rawley Hector also doubles on a fly ball to right field bringing both Kirschner and Box home.

The Coyotes run-ruled South Garland 8-0 after six innings.

Anna 8, Trenton 4

The Anna Coyotes also beat Trenton on Thursday. Both sophomore Jaden Torres and senior Zach Howard pitched during the win. Both pitchers went errorless with a combined total of 10 strikeouts.

Throughout the win, sophomore Rawley Hector scored his first home run of the season. Senior Zach Howard had a double. Hector racked up a total of 3 RBI, followed by Howard and sophomore Jacob Odom with 2 RBI.

The Coyotes moved on to the championship game scheduled for Feb. 30. The game was cancelled due to weather.
