In their baseball season opener at Farmersville on Feb. 18, the Anna Coyotes rallied for six runs in the seventh inning then hung on to win, 9-8. The Farmers led, 6-3, when Anna roared back in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Coyotes catcher Jacob Odom slapped a single to left that scored Kamden Spence. Dylan Burr then brought Rawley Hector home with an infield single and the Coyotes trailed, 6-5. Next up, Michael Burnside drove a two-run double to right and Anna had the lead. Derek Kirschner then reached base on an error as two more runs scored.
Down, 9-6, Farmersville answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded when Kirschner, Anna’s third pitcher of the game, struck out the final batter for the win.
Hector went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and Odom went 3-for-4 with an RBI. The Coyotes’ starting pitcher, Zach Howard, allowed five runs and three hits in two innings of work, with two strikeouts and four walks. Jaden Torres came on in the third and pitched three scoreless innings, giving up one hit. Kirschner finished the last two frames, allowing three hits and three runs with two Ks and four walks.
Three Farmersville pitchers combined to allow nine hits and five walks while striking out nine. The teams logged five errors each.
The Farmers jumped out, 3-1, in the first inning but Howard’s RBI-double in the third pulled Anna to within 3-2. Farmersville got two more in the third, aided by three errors. The teams traded runs in the sixth, the Coyotes’ coming on Odom racing home on a passed ball.
