The Melissa High School cheerleading competition team traveled to the Fort Worth Convention Center last month to compete in the 2019 UIL Spirit State Competition, where they placed in the top 10.

The team placed in the top 20 following three preliminary rounds; they competed in the 4A All-Girls Division in the categories of Band Chant, Cheer Chant, and Fight Song.

That evening, the team’s performance during the finals earned them the 9th place trophy out of nearly 100 participating teams.

Melissa’s team captains are Memory Groves, Amee Hartwell, Kaitlyn Ward, and Kamryn Watson. The Melissa High School cheerleading program is under the direction of coaches Michelle Cruce-Malone, Hallie Venner, and Alex Whorton.
