On Friday, Melissa tightened its grip on second place in District 11-4A in downing Sanger’s Lady Indians, 52-40, at Melissa Middle School. With the win, head coach Chris Oestreich and the Lady Cardinals (7-2) hold a two-game edge over third-place Sanger with one district contest remaining.

For Melissa, guard Sally Clemmons tallied a team-high 13 points and guard Mya Ellis popped for 12. Chloe Malone led Sanger scorers with 13 points.

The Lady Cards jumped out, 13-6, in the first quarter, boosted by an Allie Graham 3, and they maintained that seven-point advantage at halftime. Mya Ellis and Charley Lane canned treys in the second half as Melissa pulled away.
