In non-district soccer action on Jan. 25 at Royse City, Anna’s Lady Coyotes fell to the Class 5A Lady Bulldogs, 4-0, as Anna goalkeeper Payton Wickliffe posted eight saves. Royse City collected each of its goals in the first half. On Jan. 28, the Lady Coyotes bounced back with a 1-0 win at Class 4A Community as Wickliffe again logged eight saves. “We played with grit,” Anna head coach Marlon Madrigal said after the contest. At Class 4A Paris on Friday, the Lady Coyotes were edged, 2-1. Kaitlyn Long provided Anna’s lone goal in the match’s 72nd minute. The Lady Coyotes put up 10 shots on goal, with one hitting a post. The team wrapped the week with a record of 7-6. Madrigal called the loss “frustrating.”

On the boys’ side, head coach Matt Ellis and the Coyotes dropped a 1-0 decision to Garland ILT on Jan. 30 at Coyote Stadium. ILT’s goal came on an early penalty kick. “We were very sluggish,” Ellis said. “Hopefully, it’s something that we can learn from.” The Coyotes’ season mark stands at 5-2-2.

Both Anna teams begin District 9-4A play on Feb. 11, at home versus Gainesville.
