The Anna Coyotes notched a 5-2 win over North Lamar on Jan. 21 in non-district soccer action at
Coyotes Stadium. The victory was the fourth-straight for Anna (6-1-2). Gavin Reno tallied two goals for the Coyotes while teammates Jesus Garrido, Juan Morales and Carlos Garrido chipped in one apiece. Isaac Nino led Anna with three assists. The Coyotes led, 4-1, at halftime.
North Lamar collected nine shots-on-goal to Anna’s eight, but the Coyotes’ defense was up to the task. Anna goalkeepers David Joaquin and Phillip Henson split time again, with Henson coming on in the second half to pick up seven saves as the Panthers fought to rally.
Jesus Garrido opened the scoring just 1:30 into the match, with a Nino assist. North Lamar tied it, 1-1, 11 minutes later. Reno regained the lead for Anna with a goal midway through the period - with Nino’s second assist. Four minutes after Reno’s scoring boot, Juan Morales took a pass from Nino and sent the Coyotes’ advantage to 3-1. Reno’s second goal of the contest came in the final minute of the first half, with Jesus Garrido assisting.
North Lamar drew to within 4-2 in the second stanza but Carlos Garrido, with an assist from Reno, answered for the Coyotes with under three minutes left in the match.
