Family Place is coming soon! What is Family Place? Family Place is a 5-week program beginning in April that will meet once a week on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Children must be ages 0 to 5 years, preferably infants to age 3. Class size is limited to 10 children. Watch for registration information soon!


Family Place provides opportunities to:


• Play with your child without interruption or distraction.


• Allow your child to play with a variety of toys, instruments and art.


• Talk with professionals in children’s health and development.


• Discover parent resources for checkout.


Do you have knowledge and experience providing expertise to preschool children and parents in the areas of health, speech, hearing and language development, child development, nutrition, music and movement and general parenting? If so, please join us as a community resource professional for this new program! Need Adult or Teen Service Hours for Scouts, School, Work, Community Service or Clubs/Honor Society? Come join us for 1-hour of service hours on Wednesday, January 30, at 3:00 p.m. or Thursday, January 31, at 4:30-5:15 p.m. to do an assembly-line fill of new resident bags. MUST PRE-REGISTER at jnehls@cityofmelissa.com.


Did you read five of the 2018 Texas Bluebonnet nominee books? Are you in grades 3-6? If so, voting for the 2018 Bluebonnet Award winners is going on now until January 31. We have a computer reserved for you to use as your voting booth! Come help decide what the best of the year book will be! Community Coat and Outerwear Drive for the Melissa Community Outreach. The following items are STILL being collected to be given free to those in need: coats of all size (adult, child and infant), jackets, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, and sweatshirts. Any new or gently used outerwear is needed as the temperatures continue to drop. Some pickup available or bring them by the library during regular hours until February 28.

Brand new homeschool teen activities group for ages 8-18. Regular meetings will be every Wednesday from 2-3:00 p.m. in the library. Upcoming events are being scheduled. Watch the web page or get on the email list jnehls@cityofmelissa.com. Here is what we have planned to get started:


• First meeting is Jan. 23 - Leather stamping. Come learn to make wonderful patterns and designs on table coasters, bookmarks and Jolly Rogers!


• Jan. 30 – Fandoms! Come show your love for your fandom. You can bring art pieces, show clips of your favorite movie, do a short reading of your favorite lines, you name it!


• Feb. 6 – Art Smart! Let’s create Valentines!


• Feb. 13 – Valentine’s Day Party! Come decorate baked yummies and take notes! We will be having a decorating contest in a bit!
