It was not a deep playoff run for the girls basketball teams from District 11-2A. Gunter, playing again without the services of head coach Bruce Keatts, the Lady Tigers were defeated in the first round by the senior laden team from Aubrey, 38-30.
The Lady Chaparrals took advantage of a cold shooting Gunter team, building up an early nine-point lead, then holding off the comeback attempts by Gunter. The Lady Tiger's all-state forward Joey Bailey had a 12 point, 13-rebound game but a late three-point flurry by Aubrey held off the Lady Tigers.
After pounding Hooks 64-46 in the bi-district round of playoff action, Melissa fell to the state's number one ranked 2A team Brock by a 51-24 count. Brock will meet Aubrey in the area round.
Honey Grove also lost, falling to Krum in a 69-55 game.
In District 10-3A girls playoff action, Paris won its first game, defeating Kaufman 49-42 and Commerce kept its playoff chances alive with two wins, a 43-41 victory over Whitesboro and a 73-45 blowout over Dallas Roosevelt. North Lamar lost to Sanger in the bi-district round.
In the regional quarter final round the two remaining 10-3A teams were eliminated. Commerce lost to Kennedale 68-48 and Crandall had little trouble with Paris, beating the Lady Cats 64-49.
On the boy's side in Conference 3A Bi-district action Paris got a first-round bye and will play Carrollton Ranchview in the Area round this weekend. Argyle posted a 30-point win over the Commerce Tigers and Whitesboro surprised Anna 60-43
Class 2A boys, Melissa received the bye to the area round where they will meet Boyd. Leonard dropped a heartbreaker to Bogata Rivercrest, losing 47-45. Whitewright cruised into the area round with a 68-30 win over Paris Chisum, but the competition gets tougher this weekend as they take on the states number 1 ranked 2A team, Ponder.
