Anna volleyball players Bella Boyd, Lexi Stewart, Julianne Curiel and Alana Pina and their nationals team, Summit 17 North, are back from the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships which was held June 25-July 4 in Detroit.
Against a tough slate of competition in the 17 Patriot division, the team managed one victory but Coach Ed Garza said he saw plenty of positives to build on.
“The trip to nationals was a good one for the young ladies,” he said. “They got to play very good competition and even though we didn’t win as many matches as we’d like to, the girls kept getting better every day. I think their confidence level rose up and they played their hearts out. They have improved so much this season and they’re a very positive group of young ladies to work with. They gave up a lot of their summer to train, practice and get ready for nationals.”
Garza is also head coach of the Austin College women’s volleyball, a post he’s held for 22 seasons while generating a .715 winning percentage. His annual high intensity volleyball camp at Anna High School is scheduled for July 16-19 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon each day.
Garza will hold camp at Melissa High School from July 30-31 with a morning and an afternoon session each day.
