Two Anna Lady Coyotes earned softball superlative awards and five more were honored in District 11-4A’s recently released all-district awards list. Junior Hannah Howell was named Co-Utility Player for the Year and sophomore Amber Thille earned Newcomer of the Year. Howell was Anna’s top starting pitcher in 2018 and a talented hand at shortstop and first base. Thille excelled at first base and as an outfielder.
Madison Davis, a scrappy senior at second base, was named first-team all-district for the Lady Coyotes and Hannah Morland, an impressive sophomore right fielder, made the second team. Solid sophomore shortstop Shelby Dombrowski was tabbed for honorable mention recognition.
Anna players earning all-academic honors were Davis, senior Grace Price and junior FeKyra Wells.
“I believe the girls that were awarded All-District were very deserving,” Lady Coyotes head coach Lindsey Gage said. “Being in such a tough district, I was glad other coaches recognized the talent these girls have. Hannah Howell and Amber gained big honors with their superlative awards. It’s nice to see their hard work payoff. Madison, Hannah Morland and Shelby were also rewarded for their great seasons. I’m also proud of the kids who made the academic team: Madison, Grace and FeKyra. Maintaining an A average throughout a long softball season is something that doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Anna finished the 2018 district slate in fifth place but was in the running for a playoff spot until the final week of play.
