On Monday, May 7, the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce held their annual golf tournament at the Hurricane Creek Country Club.

“This is one of our five annual events that help raise funds to support our Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce,” said Chamber Executive Director Kevin Hall. We utilize the funds for our day to day operations, as well as, for our scholarships awarded to graduating Anna ISD students.”

To play, businesses just need to register online on the Chamber’s website. The tournament is spread out throughout the club, with four players per team.

The registration fee included a driving range and balls, a golf cart, green fees, lunch and complimentary beverages on course, plus hors-d’oeuvres and prizes after the tournament.

This highly planned out event takes about three months to prepare for a day’s worth of activities.

“The Greater Anna Chamber Board of Directors meets a few times to plan the golf tournament, including how to manage the volunteers so that we are being efficient of everyone’s time,” said Hall. “[For volunteers] the day of the tournament starts at about 8 a.m. and we finish about 8 p.m.”

The golf tournament not only gives local businesses the chance to become a sponsor but gives them a chance to give back to the community.

“There are many involved including our Chamber’s Board of Directors, members who volunteer, players and sponsors,” said Hall. “Of course Hurricane Creek Country Club is also involved as they set up the course/players and tally the scores at the end of the tournament. This is a private golf course so our players enjoy being able to have access to the beautiful course.”

Overall, positive things were said about the tournament, as it is a way to have fun and play golf while supporting the community.

“This was a wonderful tournament. The weather was sunny and not too windy,” said Hall. “We had quite a few sponsors, as well as, many who purchased raffle tickets and we are happy with the player turn out.”

The Anna Community Development Corporation was the presenting sponsor for the tournament, followed by gold sponsors, Red River Title Company and Windsor Homes. The bronze sponsors included Atmos Energy, Bloomfield Homes, C & A Roofing & Construction, Dallas Flat Glass, Independent Bank, Lee Lewis Construction Inc., Texas Star Bank and WRA Architects.

“We appreciate all of those who invested their finances and time to help prepare for, execute and clean up for this tournament,” said Hall. “The Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce is here to connect our member businesses to each other and this fun tournament is one of the many ways we accomplish this mission.”
