Macy Stewart’s one-out seventh-inning single scored Audrey Solomon from second base to give Melissa an important 3-2 win over the Celina Lady Bobcats on Tuesday, April 3, at the Melissa Sports Facility. The victory boosted the Lady Cards (6-1) into first place in District 11-4A — past Celina, a team that had given Melissa its lone district setback this season. Three district games remain.

Solomon had opened the bottom of the seventh with a single to the left side of the infield and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Savannah Rodriguez.

Melissa’s Alexis Pevehouse struck out 13 while scattering four hits and walking three in another complete-game performance. Micayla Gallaway also went the whole way for Celina, allowing five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

The Lady Cards took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Pevehouse’s double to center field which scored Kylee Brakebill. Celina went ahead with a run in the fourth and another in the fifth — that one on Randi Dobbins’ solo home run. In the sixth, Melissa rallied to tie it at two when Pevehouse grounded out to second and scored Brakebill, who had reached base on a single and stolen second.
