A Bonham sacrifice fly in the sixth inning brought home the eventual game-winning run on Monday, March 26, as the Lady Warriors topped Anna, 5-4, at Bonham. In the top of the seventh, the Lady Coyotes got the tying run to second base but no further as the Lady Warriors’ district record improved to 3-2 and Anna’s mark fell to 1-4 at the midpoint of the district race.
Lady Coyote pitcher Hannah Howell struck out seven and walked two, while allowing 12 hits. Bonham’s starter went six innings and permitted four hits while striking out nine with no walks before giving way to a reliever in the seventh.
Three of Anna’s hits were home runs with Howell blasting two of the solo variety and Lauren Kerns providing a two-run shot.
The Lady Coyotes took the lead in the first inning on Howell’s first homer, a two-out drive over the left- field fence. Bonham answered with two runs in the second and two in the third.
Anna rallied to tie at 4-4 with three runs in the sixth. Kerns got it started with her two-out home run to left which scored hit-batter Madison Davis. Two pitches later, Howell knotted the score with her second long ball to left. Bonham ended the Lady Coyotes’ surge with a strikeout and soon had the lead for good.
Anna hosts first-place Melissa (4-1) on Thursday, March 29, at 6 p.m.
