Melissa pitcher Alexis Pevehouse hurled a complete-game two-hitter while striking out eight and walking three. The Lady Cards collected nine hits off Bonham pitcher Makenzie Downs, who struck out four and walked six.
Offensively for Melissa, Pevehouse collected a team-high 3 RBIs and scored two runs on a 2-for-2 night with a home run and Kylee Brakebill went 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Anna Fortenberry had two hits in four at-bats with a double while Audrey Solomon went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
To lead off the game, Brakebill was hit by a pitch and reached second on Pevehouse’s sacrifice bunt. After Fortenberry’s single and a walk to Solomon, Brakebill tagged and came home on Savannah Rodriguez’ fly ball to left. The Lady Warriors tied it in their half of the frame, but Melissa went ahead in the second, 2-1. Sally Clemmons got that started with a walk then, with two outs, Brakebill’s single to right sent her to third. From there, Pevehouse’s two-out line drive to left field scored Clemmons.
The Lady Cards bumped their advantage to 4-1 in the fourth with Pevehouse’s two-run shot over the center field fence. Fortenberry’s double followed and Solomon singled but both were stranded. The lead went to 6-1 with two more in the sixth. Brakebill got the first one, stealing third then racing home on an error by the catcher. Next up, Solomon singled home Pevehouse with a shot to left field.
Bonham got untracked for two runs in their last at-bat after loading the bases with one out. Pevehouse was called for an illegal pitch, advancing the runners for one score, then a sacrifice fly to center field gave the Lady Warriors their third and final run.
