The Melissa boys track team rolled to 152 points and a first-place finish at the Panther Relays in Van Alstyne on Thursday, March 8. The Cards’ nearest competitors in the eight-team field, Aubrey and Van Alstyne, tied for second with 116 points.


“I was very pleased with how we competed at VA,” Melissa boys head coach Travis Roberson said, “especially missing several kids due to spring break commitments. I’m excited about where we’re at but we’re still a ways away from where we need to be.”


Among the Cards’ top performers were Ja’Bray Young, who claimed first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.45 seconds, and Kennedy Lewis, who bested the 200-meter competition in a time of 22.89 seconds. First-place performances were also turned in by Jackson Scribner, who finished the 1,600 meters in 4 minutes, 41.55 seconds and Judson Greer with a time of 9 minutes, 44.28 seconds in the 3,200 meters. The Cards’ 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays teams were also the fastest in the field, with Mason Enniss, Lewis, Jaylynn Halliburton-Jones and Young finishing the 4x100 in 43.7 seconds and Enniss, Lewis, Cole McCraw and Young posting a 4x200 time of 1 minute, 32.13 seconds.


Matthew Hahn took second place in the 400 meters in a time of 52.56 seconds. Enniss claimed third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.89 seconds and Lucas Tauch took third in the 800 meters, finishing in 2 minutes, 9.95 seconds. Blake Chaloupka’s time of 4 minutes, 51.37 seconds in the 1,600 meters earned third place, and the 4X400 relay team of Dion Galbreath, Halliburton-Jones, Greer, and Hahn


claimed third as well with a time of 3 minutes, 43.06 seconds


In field events, Josh Wood took second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches while McCraw claimed third, clearing 6 feet even. McCraw also placed second in the triple jump with a 41-foot, 5.5-inch effort. Other field-event point-getters were Trevor Duggan, who took fifth in discus with a throw of 99 feet, 10 inches, and sixth in shot put with a 38-foot, 11-inch toss; and pole-vaulter Enniss, who cleared 9 feet, 6 inches for sixth place.


Other track-event point-getters, with their times, were:


- Frank Graham, fourth in the 800 meters; 2 minutes, 10.36 seconds


- McCraw, fifth in the 200 meters; 24.56 seconds


- Galbreath, sixth in the 800 meters; 2 minutes, 13.4 seconds


- Graham, sixth in the 1,600 meters; 4 minutes, 58.14 seconds
