Melissa’s Lady Cardinals maintained an unblemished district slate on Friday, Feb. 2, in routing Celina, 67-38, at Melissa’s High Bird Cage. The state-ranked Lady Cards (28-3, 9-0) rolled to a 37-14 first-half lead and held a 48-27 advantage after three quarters.
Melissa forward Taylor Carney pumped in 24 points with four 3-pointers, both team-highs, while Lady Cards guard Taylor Thomas tallied 15 with three buckets from downtown. Thomas, guard Natalie Conlin and forward Charley Lane each totaled three assists. Thomas’ seven rebounds also led Melissa while Conlin pulled down five boards.
The Lady Cards outshot Celina 46- to 35-percent from the field and turned the ball over 10 fewer times than the Lady Bobcats, 15-25. Celina managed a 32-24 edge in rebounding.
With a win at Anna on Tuesday, Feb. 5, the Lady Cards will complete a second-straight season with no district losses. The Lady Coyotes (3-6) have two wins over Bonham and one over Celina and are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot in District 11-4A.
