Aubrey defeated Anna’s Lady Coyote basketball team, 50-34, at Aubrey High School on Tuesday, Jan. 30, improving its second-place district mark to 6-2. With the loss, Anna’s record moved to 2-6, one game back of the fourth and final playoff spot with two games left in the regular season.

Aubrey led 29- 10 at halftime and 40-24 after three quarters. Kaia Saylor put up a game-high 16 points for the Lady Chaparrals while Anna guard Skyla Mackey’s seven points led her team.

“It was a tough game for us,” Anna head coach Albert Cager said. “Aubrey came out with high intensity and we were never able to match it. … We missed open shots and a few early layups. We finally got things going in the second half. We executed, played hard and forced turnovers. I liked the way we finished. We just have to start better next time.”

Anna scorers: Skyla Mackey 7, Marianna Bert 6, Taylor Medrick 5, Hannah Howell 5, JaShell Evans 4, Kaycee Redwine 4, Lexi Stewart 3.
