Melissa’s Lady Cardinals opened their season on Saturday, Nov. 4, with a 56-41 road win at Muenster, pulling away with a 21-8 third-quarter burst after trailing, 22-21, at halftime.
Sophomore forward Ashley Gideon led the Lady Cards with 16 points and also posted a team-high four blocks. Senior forward Taylor Carney collected 14 points, sank 2-of-5 from 3-point range and blocked three shots, while junior guard Sally Clemmons tallied 10 points and was the Lady Cards’ top rebounder, with six.
Senior guard Taylor Thomas totaled nine assists to lead Melissa and also registered a team-high four steals. Carney and Clemmons posted three steals each, and senior Natalie Conlin was 1-for-2 from 3-point range.
Natalie Dangelmayr led the Class 2A Lady Hornets with 16 points.
