Melissa (17-7) picked up a four-set road win at Class 4A Paris North Lamar on Tuesday, Sept. 12 by counts of 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22.

The Lady Cards’ top hitter this night was sophomore Caroline Kasson, who — along with 16 kills — tallied only five errors for a hefty .268 hitting average. Junior Susan Blake also tallied 16 kills, as senior Aubrey Grantham and junior Charley Lane added eight and seven, respectively, to Melissa’s 52 total kills.

Of the Lady Cards’ 13 service aces, Blake and Lane fired four each. Top Melissa passing performances included Blake’s 2.36 rating, sophomore Ella Branson’s 2.25 and senior libero Brittany Melcher’s 2.12. Melcher also posted 21 of the Lady Cards’ 93 digs, with Blake supplying 20, Kasson, 19, and Lane, 11. Of 12 Lady Card blocks, Blake and junior Anna Fortenberry each registered three assist-blocks and Blake had a solo. Freshman Abbey Maldonado collected two assist-blocks in just one set of action.

Lane totaled a team-high 23 set-assists and junior Sophia Davis tallied 21.

The Lady Cards begin district play on Friday, Sept. 22, at Princeton.
