Anna posted win number one on the young season on Friday, Sept. 8, defeating Callisburg, 21-6, in non-district action at Coyote Stadium. Senior Keelan Crosby led Anna’s charge, rushing for 109 yards, tossing a touchdown pass and returning a punt 61 yards for the Coyotes’ second score.

All scoring this night came in the first half.

Anna sophomore running back Abner Dubar posted 57 yards rushing on 11 carries with one touchdown, and senior teammate Emmonte Davis hauled in Coyote-highs in catches (3) and receiving yards (28). Davis’ 11-yard touchdown reception from Crosby gave Anna a 20-6 lead.

Class 3A Callisburg (0-2) was held to 32 yards rushing as the Coyotes (1-1) rolled to 217 yards on the ground. Senior defensive end Bubba Jones led Anna with 13 tackles, including five solo stops. Senior linebacker King Oke collected nine tackles with four solos.

“I think we did some good things,” Anna head coach Jason Heath said. “We had way too many penalties that kind of killed us a little bit on some drives. … Defensively, outside of two plays, we played really good. I’m proud of those guys. Offensively, we moved the ball again this week and were able to put it in the end zone. … Last week to this week, we improved in some areas.”

The Coyotes travel to face Van Alstyne (2-0) on Friday, Sept. 15.
