The bi-district champion Melissa Cardinals claimed half of District 11-4A’s superlative designations and had six more players selected to All-District teams in just-released results for 2017. Cards junior first baseman/relief pitcher Tate Whittington was named Co-MVP of the district, while Melissa starter Andrew Cole, a junior, was tabbed Pitcher of the Year. Junior Adam Davis, a pitcher/infielder for the Cards, was selected as the district’s Newcomer of the Year. To top it off, Melissa head coach Jeff Russell and his staff — Kyle Dezern, Travis Pickup and Matt Spann — were named the district’s Staff of the Year.
