Brady Morrison’s two-run, walk-off single to center field lifted the Melissa Cardinals over Princeton, 2-1, on Tuesday, April 18, at Melissa High’s Sydney Field. It was yet another cardiac finish for the first-place Cards, whose district mark now sits at 7-1 with two regular-season games left. Morrison’s game-winning shot came with two outs after Isaiah Segovia walked and Dalton Vestal doubled to left. Princeton had led the game since the second inning on an error-aided run.
Pitcher Andrew Cole went the whole way for Melissa, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out six. His complete-game counterpart, Austin Hitchcock, gave up six hits, walked eight and struck out eight. Cole also posted a double at the plate, as did Morrison. Others collecting hits for the Cards were Krisjon Segleski and Adam Davis. Nathan Roets and Arturo Ramizez each had two hits for Princeton.
