In a final tune-up before the District 11-4A meet on April 12-13, plenty of Anna and Melissa track and field athletes posted superb individual performances at the Farmersville Invitational on April 6, at Farmer Stadium. And team-wise, Melissa placed second on the boys’ side, just ahead of third-place Anna in the 18-team field, and fourth among the girls’ squads. Anna girls placed eighth, with what Lady Coyotes’ head coach Hoot Jones called “a skeleton crew.”
Below are highlights from each team’s performance.
Karrington Lewis took the gold medal in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 12.05 seconds, matching her school record, and claimed silver in the 200 meters with a time of 24.95 seconds, another school record. Teammate Priscilla Adejokun was first again in the shot put with a school-record toss of 44 feet, 4.5 inches and she earned silver in the discus with a throw of 110 feet, 5.5 inches.
Marisa Brunson claimed second place in the pole-vault competition, clearing 8 feet, 6 inches. Alison Kocsis earned bronze in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12 minutes, 42.87 seconds, and in the 100-meter hurdles, Brenna Sheriff took third place with a time of 16.93 seconds.
The 4x200-meter relay team of Natalie Courtney, Sally Clemmons, Joycelynn Sparks and Ashanti Johnson claimed bronze with a time of 1 minute, 49.73 seconds.

Anna’s Keelan Crosby, Elijah Smith, Aaron Lee and Josh Abara set a new school record in the 200-meter relay with a time of 1 minute, 29.51 seconds, earning gold along the way. In the 4x100-meter relay, Crosby, Lee, Abara and Johnathan Venable set another school record, 43.57 seconds, for second place in that event.
Coyote senior Elijah Smith earned double gold at Farmersville, finishing on top in the 400-meter dash and in the triple jump. Smith’s time in the 400 meters was 49.12 seconds, one second ahead of Van Alstyne’s Levi Jones. Smith’s triple-jump leap went for 44 feet and 1 inch, besting Aubrey’s Gatlin Grisso by just over a foot.
Abara placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.31 seconds, and Lee and Daunte Rose posted personal bests in the 200-meter dash and shot put, respectively. Lee finished third in his race with a time of 23.06 seconds and Rose’s throw of 46 feet, 3.5 inches also took third.

—Emmonte Davis, sixth in 300-meter hurdles
Elijah Mackey took first place in the 3,200-meter run, literally lapping some of the field, with a time of 9 minutes, 40.45 seconds. Teammate Jackson Scribner claimed silver in the event, finishing in 10 minutes, 9.37 seconds.
Gabe Rodriguez earned gold in the pole vault with a 13-foot, 6-inch effort, besting his nearest competitor by 2.5 feet. Cole McCraw earned first place in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches, and Cale Hayes claimed gold in the shot-put with throw of 49 feet, 3.5 inches, beating out Leonard’s Byron Bolin by nearly two feet. Marvin Jordan, Tyrek Wallace, Kennedy Lewis and Jason Baker took bronze in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 43.76 seconds.

Abby Sanders took gold in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 2.98 seconds and Angelica Armijo earned bronze in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing in 50.12 seconds. Other Lady Coyote point-getters included:
