Anna senior Vail Springer won the Class 4A championship in the 198-pound division at the state powerlifting meet at Waco’s Extraco Events Center on March 17. Springer lifted a total of 1,040 pounds to earn the title and along the way tied the 4A state record for bench press with a lift of 275 pounds.

Other top Lady Coyote performances at state included: senior Hailee Anderson, who placed third in the 198-pound division with a total lift of 1,020 pounds; sophomore Ashley Enriquez-Castro, who claimed third in the 259-pound division with a total lift of 1,050 pounds; and sophomore Macy Davis, who took fourth in the 181-pound division, lifting a total of 900 pounds.

As a team, Anna’s girls tied for third in the state among Class 4A schools, which Lady Coyotes head coach Chris Anderson said makes them the highest finishing Class 4A girls squad in North or Central Texas.

“It was a great way to end the season for our team,” Anderson said. “This team has worked hard all season and for all four girls to medal at state is a huge accomplishment for them. You had two really great senior lifters who finished off successful careers and two sophomores who were able to handle the pressure of lifting in the state meet for the first time and medal. These ladies represented themselves, their community and their school well at state.”
