The Refugio Bobcats came into their District 31-2A match-up against the Agua Dulce Longhorns as the No. 2-ranked team in all of Class 2A.

However for much of Thursday afternoon, it was the Longhorns who were playing as the dominate squad.

The Bobcats had to overcome an early rally by the Longhorns and score late runs to pull off a 5-3 victory. The game was tied 3-3 until Refugio's D’Mond LaFond hit a double and drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Longhorns took the lead in the first inning. Jr. Perez, Bo Surber, and Randal Garza each drove in runs to give the Longhorns an early three-run lead.

Garza started on the mound for Agua Dulce. He went four and two-thirds innings. He struck out eight and scattered five hits. Perez came in midway through the fifth inning.

Garcia lead Agua Dulce at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored. Perez was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

LaFond, already committed to Div. I Houston, went the distance for Refugio. He gave up three hits while walking eight and striking out 13.

The Longhorns are at home in Agua Dulce to host Woodsboro Tuesday. Game time is 4 p.m.
