Senior distance-runner Elijah Mackey and freshman sprinter Ja’Bray Young each claimed double-gold for the Melissa Cardinals when the team traveled up Highway 5 to compete in the Van Alstyne Panther Relays on Thursday, March 9. Mackey took first place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9 minutes, 54 seconds, before repeating with on top in the 1,600 meters in a time of 4 minutes, 36.8 seconds. Young earned gold in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.61 and 23.5 seconds, respectively.

• Jackson Scribner – second place, 3,200-meter run; 10 minutes, 27 seconds


• Marvin Jordan – third place, 200-meter dash; 24.15 seconds


• Marvin Jordan - fourth place, 100-meter dash; 11.99 seconds


• Cale Hayes – second place, shot-put; 42 feet


• Cale Hayes – third place, discus; 108 feet, 6.5 inches


• Blake Chaloupka – third place, 1,600-meter run; 4 minutes, 53.25 seconds


• Matt Hahn – fifth place, 400-meter dash; 54.62 seconds


• Tarek Wallace – fifth place, 200-meter dash; 24.51 seconds


• Josh Wood – fifth place, high jump; 5 feet, 10 inches


As a team, the varsity Cardinals took fourth place in the eight-team meet with 84.5 points. Aubrey finished first with 140.5 points.
