Melissa pitcher Andrew Cole took the win in Cardinals’ run rule-shortened 15-2 take down of Class 3A Pilot Point on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The Cards jumped on the Bearcats early with nine big runs in the first inning, including a two-run homer by Dalton Vestal.

“I think we swung the bats well,” Melissa head coach Jason Russell said. “We jumped out on them. We just kept scrapping for some runs. I thought we played pretty well overall.”

“Andrew threw really well,” Russell added. “He kept his pitch count down, threw strikes. He did everything I asked him to do. He gave a chance, kept us in the game. He does that.”

Other Cardinal highlights from the game included: a double by Jake Burrow; three stolen bases and an RBI from Grayson Hurst; a two-run single by Brady Morrison and two hits from Danny Britt in three at-bats.
