Both the girls and boys Anna powerlifting teams took first place at the Frisco Heritage meet on Thursday, Feb. 9. The girls won with a total of 48 team points and the boys collected 34 points. And at the Gainesville meet on Saturday, Feb. 4, the Lady Coyotes took second and the Coyotes placed third.
Some of the teams competing at Frisco were Frisco Reedy, Frisco Centennial, Frisco Heritage, Princeton and McKinney High. At the Gainesville competition were Bridgeport, Plano, Whitesboro, Howe, Nocona, Valley View, Pottsboro and Kennedale.
“We are very pleased with how we have performed in the last two meets as a team,” Anna girls coach Chris Anderson said. “We have seen some of the best teams in not only Class 4A, but also in larger classifications and have been able to compete and win against some great teams. Hopefully, we continue to gain more confidence and carry that over into regionals on Feb. 23.”
Anna boys coach Kenny Wilkerson agreed.
“They have been working hard the past few weeks in preparing for regionals,” Wilkerson said. “Their hard work and dedication in the weight room is showing up when they compete at these very competitive meets. We look forward to seeing what this team can accomplish at Howe and then in regionals.”
Hailee Anderson was awarded Best Lifter of the Meet in the Heavy Platform.
Amyri Cox, Rasheed Reedus and Chris Tracy placed in the Top 10 of their weight classes as well.
