Class 5A Sulphur Springs (5-0) topped the Anna Coyotes, 91-57, on Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Royse City Tournament. The Wildcats raced out to a 32-9 first-quarter lead then coasted for the win, prevailing points-wise in each quarter.
Anna (3-3) was led by senior Keamoni Mattocks, who collected a team-high 22 points, and senior Elijah Smith, who added 15. Sulphur Springs standout Keaston Willis recorded a game-high 33-point outing, with teammate Victor Iwuakor adding 21. With the win, the Wildcats advanced to the second round to face Class 6A Lufkin (3-1). Earlier in the day, the Coyotes fell to Lufkin, 76-35. No further information on that game or other Anna action was available.
