The Dallas Christian Lady Chargers (8-1) jumped out to a 25-6 first-quarter lead then cruised past the Lady Cardinals, 74-47, on Monday, Nov. 21, at Melissa High’s Bird Cage.


Taylor Carney again led Melissa (3-4) in scoring, this time with 18 points. Other top scorers included Lauren Brown and Esthy Uyi-Ekhator with 9 points each, and Natalie Conlin with 6.


Dallas Christian won last year’s TAPPS 4A state championship.


On Tuesday, Melissa overwhelmed the Waxahachie Life Lady Mustangs, 55-22, in more non-district action at the Bird Cage. Brown led the Lady Cards (4-4) with 12 points, while Krista Butterfield and Carney each pumped in 10. Charley Lane added 9 points.


Carney collected a team-high 11 rebounds as Brown and Esthy Uyi-Ekhator each nabbed eight. Conlin brought down seven rebounds and tallied four assists. Melissa never allowed the Lady Mustangs (1-7) more than seven points per quarter, permitting just three in the final period.


Waxahachie Life is a charter school competing in District 8-4A.
