Danielle Gonzales lifted a total of 1,065 pounds to earn the state championship in the 181-pound division at the Texas High School Women’s State Powerlifting Meet in Corpus Christi on March 15.
Gonzales had the top totals across the board in her weight class (425 squat, 250 bench, 390 deadlift) and held a 130-pound advantage over runner-up Marissa Hinojosa of Pleasanton. This was the third consecutive state championship for Gonzales, who began lifting as a sophomore.
Just as notable is the fact that Gonzales overcame a rare illness to repeat as champion last year and then was able to do what few before her have accomplished – win three straight titles.
Teammate Jordan Miller was 13th at 105 pounds with a total of 525 pounds, and the Lady Coyotes finished eighth in the standings.
