An unbelievable route to the playoffs ended with the Anna Lady Coyotes falling to Ferris in the Bi-District round of the UIL state volleyball playoffs in 2012.

In the last week of the season, Anna needed to either defeat Melissa to make the playoffs or have Princeton defeat Community to force a play-in for third place. Princeton did knock off Community, and Anna scheduled the play-in game to take on the Lady Braves.

After five hard-fought games, Community came out on top and seemingly eliminated Anna from playoff contention. Well, almost. As it turned out, the Lady Braves played players that were ineligible according to UIL guidelines and in doing so were disqualified by the UIL.

So, Anna advanced.

Anna traveled to Mesquite Horn High School t he following Tuesday night to take on Ferris, the second-seeded team from 11-3A. The two teams seemed evenly matched, and the game eventually boiled down to who could make the least mistakes.

Anna jumped out of the game strong in the opening set, scoring the first six points and then going up 8-1 after a kill from Amanda Mink. The Lady Jackets took a timeout after Anna took a 12-4 lead and then put together a 7-2 run to get back into the game and force Anna to take a timeout.

A kill from Brice Inman gave Anna a four-point advantage, while Denesha Hampton landed a kill to put Anna up 20-15. Ferris fought back again, however, knotting the game up at 22 before another kill from Mink.

The Lady Jackets finished with a 6-3 run to extend the game and get the win.

Anna looked to rebound in the second game, taking a 6-5 lead after a Kaitlin Gibbon ace and then extending the lead with back-to-back aces from Inman. The Lady Coyotes led by four when Ferris again rallied, finishing the game on a 15-3 run to get the Game 2 win and put Anna in a must-win situation.

Ferris never trailed in the final set. Despite kills from Hampton and Whitney Love, the Lady Jackets were able to stay just ahead of Anna through the first half of the game then them pull away late to win 25-19.

After the season, seven Lady Coyote volleyball players received all-district honors. The top award went to junior Amanda Mink, who was named Hitter of the Year for District 12-3A. Senior Brice Inman and sophomore Denisha Hampton were named to the all-district first team.All-district and second team honors went to senior Whitney Love and freshman Mikaela Gililland. Destene Rodriguez and Breeanna Dilldine were honorable mentions on the team.
