It took the Lady Coyotes a couple of games to get going and by the time they did it was too late as Princeton was able to sweep Anna in a Friday night matchup on Oct. 4.
The Lady Panthers defended their home court well in the first two games, wining easily 25-9 and 25-10, but Anna refused to go down without a fight, extending the final game before Princeton put it away 27-25 to get the sweep.
As of Friday, Melissa leads the district with a 3-0 record and Bonham, Community and Princeton each have a 1-1 record. Anna sits at 0-3 but its postseason dreams are not gone. Bonham and Community will square off on Tuesday, and if Bonham can win and Anna can win on Friday against Community the two teams will finish the first half of district 1-3. A 3-1 finish in the remaining four games or help from another team could help the Lady Coyotes’ playoff hopes.
A change in the playoff structure this year means that the top four teams will make the playoffs, even in a five team district.
"We are using this bye week to regroup mentally,"Anna Head Coach Tomika Crosby said. "We started with one of the toughest teams in our district, we fought hard but lost in the end. After Friday night’s loss to Princeton, we will be making some changes, as well, as we continue to work on being consistent and stronger defensively."
The Lady Coyotes will finish the first half of district play Friday as they play host to Community and then take on Melissa on Tuesday.
