The Lady Cardinals were able to avenge an early district loss against Anna on Saturday, winning a slugfest 22-14. But the squad was not able to make it two in a row when it took on Community on Tuesday night. Melissa will close out its season with two road games, playing at Bonham on Friday and at Princeton next Tuesday.
The Lady Cardinals wound up on the wrong side of a 12-0 score on Tuesday at Community, tasting defeat at the hands of the Lady Braves. Bailey Ifft led the team from the plate for Melissa. Ifft went 1-for-1 and singled in the second inning.
The Lady Braves were sparked by a pair of players who teamed up for four hits and four RBIs. The Lady Braves went up for good in the second, scoring seven runs on an RBI double, a two-run error and three singles.
Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Saturday as the Lady Cardinals outscored Anna 22-14 in seven innings. The teams totaled 44 hits, including 17 extra base hits in the game.
Melissa took down the Lady Coyotes thanks to 25 hits, including 10 extra-base hits. The Lady Cardinals scored six runs in the fourth on a two-run double by Haley Hill, an RBI double by Sydney King, an RBI double by Melissa Ellis, an RBI single by Hannah Kennedy and an error.
Cassidy Price racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Lady Coyotes. She singled in the first and fourth innings. Hailey Wood also had two RBI’s and Ceci Taylor scored four times for Anna.
Kelsey Smith had three extra-base hits for the Melissa Cardinals. She singled in the first inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and tripled in the second and seventh innings.
The Melissa Cardinals hammered Anna’s pitching as seven hitters had a field day, combining for 22 hits, 16 RBIs and 22 runs scored.
