POTTSBORO — Brooke Nolte’s opening-round round 80 helped paced the Melissa girls golf team to a 24-stroke lead at the Class 3A Region II tournament at Tanglewood on Monday.

Melissa shot a combined 371 to outdistanced itself from second-place Bridgeport. Atlanta was the only other school to break 400 at 396.

All four Lady Cardinals are in the top 25. Nolte had the low round of the day and has a five-shot lead while Kaitlyn Watkins is tied for 10th with a 94, LeeAnn Cardwell is a shot behind and Kambri Gabel is tied for 25th with a 102.

Bonham is 13th with a total of 457. Erin Donna is tied for 30th with a 104 while Ally Allenez is at 115, Addisyn Essary sits at 118, Chuysianna Craig had a 120 and Alex Harrison carded a 125.

Anna’s Cheyenne Hernsberger is tied for 45th with a 111 while Celina’s Alex Jones is tied for 56th with a 116.

On the boys side, Anna sits in 12th place following the first round after a combined total of 373. Grant Sears leads the way with an opening 80, which is tied for 17th. Blake Henson shot a 94 and is tied for 64th, Reed Thornburg is tied for 72nd after a 98, Jake Gilliland shot 101 and Tyler Thornburg had a 115.

Melissa is in 14th place with a total of 387. John Brown is tied at 64 after shooting a 94 while Collin Davis is tied for 70th following a 97. Brodie Seeker and Chase Schandelmeier are a stroke back and Brogan Cummins shot a 103.

Bonham’s Rebel Peeler is tied for 47th after an 88.

The second round of the tournament will take place today.
