The Lady Coyotes participated in the Red River Tournament that was held at Gainesville High School over the June weekend, and the ladies battled their way through from the very beginning. On Friday, they ended the day undefeated with wins against Gainesville, Alvord, and Lindsey.

After three games on Friday, the Lady Coyotes immediately turned around on Saturday and managed to keep their undefeated record intact as they took on Sacred Heart and Era to finish up pool play. Anna then conquered Gainesville in the first round of bracket play.

On Sunday, Anna’s winning streak came to an end when it fell to Alvord in its first game of the day.

Anna was not finished fighting, however, as it proved in its second game by topping Sacred Heart and were admitted into the championship round of the tournament.

In the final round, the Lady Coyotes were placed against Alvord, a well-established team that played in the state tournament last year and was knocked out of the tournament by the team that went on to become the eventual state champs.

The game was a battle that was hard fought, and in the end the Lady Coyotes fell just short of a tournament win. Alvord pulled it out with a score of 33-27.

Anna finished in second place in the tournament. The team continues to work in the off-season to make the UIL playoffs for the third time in four seasons.
