Following the Thanksgiving break, the Anna Lady Coyotes took the court on Tuesday night in their home opener. Anna took the lead early and fell behind later but were able to pull away and lead throughout the second half to secure the win. The Lady Coyotes improved to 6-4 on the season.

The girls will participate in the Farmersville tournament beginning on Thursday night, and they will play at Denton Ryan on Tuesday.

Anna 50, Tom Bean 45

Playing for their first time this season in front of a home crowd, the Lady Coyotes started fast against Tom Bean on Dec. 3. Dei Moreno scored the team’s first nine points of the game and Anna led 9-4 midway through the opening quarter.

The Lady Cats were able to come back into the game, however, going ahead by one with 1:44 left in the quarter and then hitting a three at the buzzer to take a 16-13 at the end of one.

Anna faced its biggest deficit of the game midway through the second but a big three-pointer by Jaci Richardson brought Anna within two. A three by Moreno gave the Lady Coyotes the lead. Moreno hit another jumper to help Anna close out the half on a 10-2 run.

In the third quarter, Tom Bean was able to tie the score at 28-28 after a Richardson foul gave the Lady Cats a chance for two at the charity stripe. The teams combined for just 15 points in the quarter, but Moreno helped her team finish the third with a two-point advantage after shaking a defender out of her shoes and knocking down a jumper.

Anna put the game away in the fourth quarter as Tessa Hutto pulled down a rebound and hit the put-back. Moreno scored on a steal and shot to put the Lady Coyotes up by six. Amber Ramos knocked down a shot with a minute left Anna as went on to win by five.

Moreno led all scorers with 25 in the game.

Other Anna scorers included: Mikaela Gililland (11), Jaci Richardson (8), Tessa Hutto (4) and Amber Ramos (2).

Aubrey 41, Anna 38 (OT)

In their final game before the Thanksgiving break, Anna traveled to Aubrey and lost in an overtime heartbreaker. Moreno had a strong start, scoring seven in the opening quarter as the Lady Coyotes were able to take a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Moreno finished the game with 15 points.

The Aubrey defense was able to slow Anna from that point, however, and allowed just nine points in the second and third quarters combined as the Lady Chaps slowly chipped their way back into contention. The score was knotted up at 33-all at the end of regulation. Moreno scored all five Anna points in the overtime period but it wasn’t enough to get the win as Anna fell by three.

Other Anna scorers included: Mikaela Gililland (12), Amber Ramos (4), Favor Abara (3), Jaci Richardson (3) and Tessa Hutto (1).
