Anna started the season off well but then struggled to find its groove in September. But the girls hope to turn that around starting on Friday when they dive into the district portion of their schedule. The Lady Coyotes wrapped up pre-district with a pair of losses against Aubrey and will have a tall order as they travel to the defending district champion Lady Cardinals of Melissa for the district opener on Friday.

"We played well at times and we struggled at times," Head Coach Tomika Crosby said. "We weren’t consistent in our play and lost games as a result of that. This has been a learning experience for us. We know we have to play consistently from point to point and finish games."

Anna is looking to make back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time in a decade, and in the five team district 12-3A, four wins is enough to secure a playoff spot. Crosby is not content with that, however, she wants her team to excel in the next few weeks as it strives to "play hard, play consistently and finish in the top three."

Aubrey 3, Anna 1

Looking to rebound from its loss at Aubrey a week earlier and defending home court, Anna hosted the Lady Chaps and stayed close, but not close enough to come away with the win.

In the opening game, Dei Moreno had a tip to knot the score early, while kills from Denisha Hampton and Mikaela Gililland kept Anna close. Aubrey was able to finish up with a 7-2 run to take game one.

The Lady Coyotes fell behind early in the next match, facing a 1-5 deficit early but a kill from Moreno and several well placed serves from freshman Skylar Van Norman fueled a five-point run that gave Anna the advantage. Aubrey fought back though and took a four point lead before Anna again rallied and took the lead, 15-14 that forced the Lady Chaps to take a timeout.

Amanda Mink landed a kill a few plays later, and Aubrey took another timeout. Two kills from Gililland helped close out the game with Anna ahead, 25-22.

After evening up the match, the Lady Coyotes struggled — never leading in the last two games. Aubrey won game three 25-17 and then held Anna off in the final game after the Lady Coyotes tied it up at 23-23. The Lady Chaps scored the final two points to get the win and take the match.
