Anna concluded the first half of district play on Oct. 11 with itsfirst game of the season against Community — the team it narrowly edged to earn the last playoff spot in 2012. This time, however, it was Community that walked away victorious.
The Lady Coyotes took on Melissa on Oct. 15, nd were swept by the Lady Cardinals. Anna now stands at 0-5 in district play — with wins needed desperately if it wants to make back-to-back playoff appearances.
The team will travel to Bonham on Friday looking to get a win on the road.
Looking to get a win in the last game of the first half of district play, Anna played host to Community on Friday night. Despite looking strong in the beginning of the first game, the Lady Braves were able to take control, steal the momentum and get a 3-0 win over Anna.
Amanda Mink landed a kill to give the Lady Coyotes a 3-2 advantage and then a Mink ace put Anna up 8-6 a few plays later. Anna scored three more points to go up by five, and Community took a timeout to regroup.
The Lady Braves answered with a 9-1 run to take the lead and force a timeout. Community had a 13-1 run going when Skylar Van Norman landed a kill. Anna got within three on a kill from Dei Moreno, but Community was able to pull off the come-from-behind win.
In the second game, Community led the whole way despite kills from Van Norman, Mink and Denisha Hampton. Anna could not get any traction and fell 25-13.
The Lady Coyotes continued to struggle against the Community momentum in the final game, falling behind 1-9 early in the match. Mikaela Gililland and Van Norman helped Anna claw its way back into the game, getting within one, 15-16, and forcing a Lady Brave time out.
Community was able to slow Anna again, finishing the game on a 9-4 run to hand the Lady Coyotes the loss.
