The Anna Lady Coyote varsity and junior varsity cross country program entered a team in both the varsity and JV divisions in the Prosper Eagle Cross Country Meet at McKinney’s Myers Park on Sept. 7.

The Lady Coyote varsity ran a skeleton squad due to illness and injury. Although they normally run a two-mile race, the varsity girls entered the 5K (3.1 mile) division.

Due to a miscalculation in measuring the distance by the meet host, the distance turned out to be about 3.5 miles.

"The times were skewed because of that issue, but the girls put forth a good effort as they competed with the defending 4A state champions from Dallas Highland Park," Anna Head Coach Hoot Jones said. "There were mostly 4A and 5A teams in that division."

The finishers in order for the Lady Coyote varsity were Itzia Naranjo, Paige Lehrmann, Autumn Spaeth and Dannie Garcia.

The Lady Coyote JV competed in the two-mile division, where they also ran well. In order of finish, they were Raye Moran, Amber Ramos, Francis Naranjo, Ally Woodruff, Taylor Hellums, Mandy Sarro and Ruth Rodriguez.

The teams will work through the week as they look forward to the Sept. 21 Pottsboro Challenge, where they will be joined by the Anna Middle School girls team, which will open its competitive season at the event.
