Lady Cardinal domination continued as Melissa took down Community on Jan. 24 and clobbered Bonham on the road four days later. Melissa improved to 6-0 in district play with the victories and has a chance to claim the outright district title on Friday night when it plays host to Princeton.

The Lady Cards will close out the district schedule at Anna on Tuesday.

Melissa 79, Bonham 28

It was a game that was lopsided from the tip-off as the Lady Cardinals, undefeated in District 12-3A play, took on the Lady Warriors who have yet to win a district contest. Melissa built a 20-point lead in the opening quarter and never looked back as it convincingly blistered Bonham 79-28 on the road.

Whitney Taylor was unstoppable for Melissa, single-handedly outscoring the opposing team, going a perfect 5-for-5 from inside the arch and 5-for-10 from downtown to finish with a game-high 29 points.

Three other Lady Cardinals were part of the double-digit club, with Keonni Conkle scoring 13, Cat Whitten adding 11 and Megan Conlin finishing the game with 10.

At the end of the first, Melissa led 26-4 and went into the locker room up by 29 at the half.

Melissa continued to control the game in the second half, holding Bonham to just 10 points in the final two periods while scoring an additional 32 points to build a 51-point advantage by games end.

Other Melissa scorers included: Gill Gray (6), Krista Butterfield (5), Lauren Brown (3) and Katie Webb (2).

Melissa 67, Community 30

It was another easy win for Melissa on Jan. 24 as the Lady Cardinals topped Community. The Lady Braves were held under 10 points in every quarter as Melissa built a 37-point winning margin.

At the end of the first quarter Melissa had built a 21-8 lead that grew to 25 points by halftime. Both teams were quiet in the third quarter but the Lady Cardinals flexed their muscle in the fourth and came away with the 67-30 win.

Taylor led the team with 20 points and Webb added 15. Conkle finished the game with 10 and the Lady Cardinals big three each finished in double-digits. Other Melissa scorers included: Cat Whitten (9), Megan Conlin (8), Gill Gray (3) and Bailey Ifft (2).
