The Melissa boys and girls golf teams competed at The Trophy Club in Southlake on Nov. 18. The Lady Cardinals finished second, just four shots behind Class 5A giant Arlington Martin. Birdville took third.
"I am happy with the way the girls finished this fall," Melissa Coach Weston Bartlett said. "Going up against 5A competition and competing like they do is amazing, and I am extremely proud of them. I think we will have something to say for the state championship in late April. The girls have worked hard this Fall to improve, and we will continue to work toward our goal of a state championship."
Brooke Nolte finished as girls champion with a 76, winning two of the three fall events. Katlyn Watkins finished third with an 86, followed by LeeAnn Cardwell with a 101, Kambri Gabel with 104, and Katie Brown at 130.
"I am pleased with the boys performance today," Bartlett added. "It was a really tough course from the back tees. Brogan Cummins is doing a great job for us this fall as a sophomore. I expect others to follow during the spring. When the team gets rolling in the spring, it will be interesting to see what we are capable of."
