The Melissa water tower burned bright red Tuesday night in celebration of the Lady Cardinal golf team’s regional championship. The total team effort, as contested on Monday and Tuesday, earned the team a 33-shot victory over its nearest competitor, Atlanta.

The tournament was held at the Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, challenging the players with rough conditions and blustery winds.

MHS freshman Brooke Nolte won the individual gold medal over 70 players from across the North East Texas Region. Nolte shot rounds of 80, 82. Katlyn Watkins shot rounds of 94, 93; LeeAnn Cardwell had her best outing of the year with 95, 94; and Kambri Gabel continued her strong play with a 102, 102.

The team must now prepare for the Texas State Class 3A Championship to be played at The Jimmy Clay Golf Course in Austin to be held on May 2 and 3.
